Fresno Fight Club Rankings Update: June 29th

The USA Today/SB Nation consensus rankings have been updated, and can be viewed here:

There were a ton of fights that took place last month. When the dust settled, the big winner was Erik Lott’s team, “The whole EnchiLOTTa”. Erik made a very good decision to add Brian Stann to his team after Stann’s decisive victory over Jorge Santiago, and also got a big win from bantamweight Demetrious Johnson. Find out what happened to your team, and where it ranks, here:

By far, the biggest riser in the rankings was middleweight fighter Mark Munoz, who went from being the #24 middleweight in the world to the #5 middleweight. As a result, Munoz, currently a free agent in the Fresno Fight Club, is worth 75 points. Now, don’t get me wrong… I would LOVE to add Munoz to my team (Flying Armbars). However, in good conscience, I can’t do that without giving the rest of the league an opportunity to add Munoz first (because I didn’t think to add Munoz after he beat Demian Maia). So I’m going to give the other team owners in this league until 8:00 PM tomorrow (June 30th) to add Munoz. The first person to message me (by text, e-mail, or website comment) saying they want to add Munoz, and specifying a fighter to drop, will be awarded with Munoz. If I don’t receive any feedback by 8:00 PM, then Munoz will officially be a member of the Flying Armbars.

Some other notes from the last month:

  • Alistair Overeem rises to #3 at heavyweight after his decision win against Fabricio Werdum. This comes mostly at Shane Carwin’s expense, as Carwin lost his second fight in a row, against Junior dos Santos.
  • Nate Marquardt dropped significantly after news broke of his being cut by the UFC. It’s hard to tell how much of the drop was the news about Marquardt having high testosterone levels, and how much was in anticipation of Marquardt moving to welterweight. Either way, I have a feeling that Marquardt hasn’t dropped in the rankings as much as he ultimately will.
  • Rick Story ended up gaining a lot of points for his 1-1 month in which he defeated Thiago Alves but lost to Charlie Brenneman. Brenneman enters the rankings for the first time at #15, and it’s possible that he’ll rise further (and Story will drop further) in the next rankings update.
