Here they are:
For the most part, SILVA pretty much goes along with the betting lines for this one. The two upsets SILVA is picking are Rani Yahya to beat Josh Grispi, and Michihiro Omigawa to beat Manny Gamburyan. I’m personally going to pick Grispi to beat Yahya, as I think Grispi is a much better fighter than he’s shown in his first two UFC fights.
Jamie Varner is also a very narrow underdog, effectively even with Joe Lauzon, but SILVA thinks Varner is a solid favorite to win that one. I would have to agree.
Caution is necessary on the fight between Mike Swick and DaMarques Johnson. Under normal circumstances, I would absolutely be comfortable picking Swick, but these are far from normal circumstances, as Swick is returning from a very long layoff stemming from multiple health issues. Just as I’m hoping to see a full-strength Josh Grispi, win or lose, I’m hoping to see a full-strength Mike Swick.
As for the light-heavyweights, SILVA is not going out on a limb by picking Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, although I do think people are dismissing Ryan Bader a little more quickly than they should be.
Those are the picks! Here’s hoping for a fun night of fights from Los Angeles on Saturday.
